How to get there

Quay Words take place in the historic Custom House on Exeter Quayside (postcode EX2 4AN). It is a 10-minute walk or a short bus ride from the city centre.

Exeter Custom House is a Grade 1 listed building over two floors.

Access inside the Custom House

Events take place in historic rooms on the first floor of the building. There is step-free entry to the ground floor and a lift connects the ground and first floors. If you have particular access requirements please phone or email the Custom House Visitor Centre in advance of your visit. Visit the website here.

Walking and cycling to the Custom House

There is a signposted walking and cycling route running from South Street in the City Centre to the Custom House. The building is about a twenty minute downhill walk from the High Street/Cathedral Green area.

Arriving by bus

During the day time there is an hourly Monday-Saturday G bus service connecting the City Centre and Exeter Quay. There is a bus stop immediately outside the Custom House. There is no evening or weekend bus service to the Quay. The timetable is here.

Arriving by train

Exeter St Thomas is the closest rail station to the Custom House. It is a about a fifteen minute level walk between the two locations.
More trains stop at Exeter St Davids and Exeter Central Stations. Exeter St Davids is about thirty minutes on foot with a level walk along the River Exe. The H bus connects St Davids with the City Centre throughout the day and in the evenings.

There is a taxi rank outside St Davids Station.

Exeter Central Station is about twenty five minutes away on foot with a downhill stretch from South Street to the Custom House.

Arriving by car

There are five free disabled parking spaces for registered Blue Badge holders next to the Exeter Antiques Centre immediately in front of the Custom House. Maximum stay is three hours.
The Cathedral and Quay multi-storey car park is situated just a five-minute downhill walk from Exeter Custom House. It is open throughout the day and in the evenings. Parking is free after 6.00pm. Access to the car park is off Western Way (the Inner Bypass)

There are fourteen on-road pay-and-display parking spaces along Commercial Road which runs from Western Way to Exeter Quay. Parking is free after 6.00pm (5.00pm on Sundays). Before then the maximum stay is 2 hours (for £3.30).

Cars can pick up and drop off passengers immediately outside the Custom House but there is no waiting space there.
