Developing writers

Developing writers

Quay Voices - our strand of writer development opportunities for new writers within the Quay Words programme - is back with a series of one-to-one writers’ surgeries for selected new voices. We’ve teamed up with three experienced writer-mentors to bring you this exclusive opportunity for tailored feedback that will help you hone your craft, discuss your work-in-progress and consider possible next steps for your writing journey.

These one-to-one sessions will take place online during three set weeks: fiction week with Katri Skala in July, poetry week with Julia Copus in August and life writing week with Colin Grant in September. If you are working on something that you want to take to the next level through feedback and advice, simply send us a sample of your work following the guidelines below and we will select a total of 12 recipients for a one-to-one surgery with an experienced mentor who has read your work in advance.

Please note that, during each of the given weeks, there are 4 sessions available. An expression of interest and submission of a writing sample is not a guarantee that you will be allocated a session. All work submitted will be reviewed by the Literature Works panel. If you are not selected on this occasion, Quay Words will continue to offer a wide range of opportunities to develop your writing over the next two years.

Within the given week, sessions for the selected writers can be booked by negotiation to take place in the morning (after 10 am), afternoon or early evening, with a view to working around your commitments and being as flexible as possible.

Once a time slot has been agreed, the selected applicants will be emailed a booking link to secure their place. The surgeries are priced at the heavily subsidised rate of £30 standard and £20 concessions. You can see a list of qualifying concessions and the necessary proof, here.
